Overview
Cryptic is designed with privacy and security as core principles. The app operates entirely on your device and does not collect, transmit, or store any data externally.
Data Collection
Cryptic does not collect any data. Specifically:
- No analytics or tracking
- No crash reports sent externally
- No network connections made by the app
- No account creation required
- No cloud sync or external storage
Local Storage
Cryptic stores data locally on your device:
- Keychain: Passphrases for your encrypted documents are stored in the macOS/iOS Keychain, protected by your system's security
- Documents: Your .cryptic files are stored wherever you choose to save them
This data never leaves your device and is protected by Apple's security frameworks.
Keychain Access
Cryptic uses the system Keychain to securely store passphrases. Each passphrase is associated with a unique document and can only be accessed by Cryptic. The Keychain is protected by your device's security, including biometric authentication if enabled.
File Access
Cryptic accesses only the files you explicitly open or create. The app uses standard macOS/iOS document APIs and respects system sandboxing.
